WAIPAHU, HI – It was a Sunday afternoon game from The Aloha State as the Westminster Griffins wrapped up their weekend away with another victory this time, they defeated
Hawaii Pacific University 2-1 as they were able to score one goal in each half as the Men's Soccer team will head back to Salt Lake City with their third straight victory.
"Scoring goals change games, and we have been on the front foot in the last three games scoring first," Head Coach
Josh Pittman said on the three-game winning streak. "We are finding a good combination of players and the guys have had great energy the last few games."
The first half started off with the action going back and forth as both teams played great defensively until
Zach Moss found the back of the net for his second goal of the weekend as Westminster led 1-0 at 21 minutes the goal was set up by
Jace Vance who helped add the first goal of the game on the assist.
In the second half, the Griffins saw
Din Huremovic strike the second goal on a penalty kick to secure the two-goal lead early in the second half.
Roark Looney got the start in the net and with four key saves throughout the game they were big saves that helped Westminster close out the victory despite a late goal that was scored in the second half, he still stood tall in defeating the Sharks on their home field.
"Roark was solid and managed the game very well," Pittman said. "The back four and our overall group defending was solid. But, we did make it interesting in the last few minutes."
UP NEXT: The road trip will continue, but this time it continues in the conference, Friday, the 16 the Griffins will head to Grand Junction and will play on the COMMUNITY HOSPITAL UNITY FIELD at
7:00 P.M MDT as they will take on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa in the first RMAC game of the year and the action will be on the RMAC Network.
