SALT LAKE CITY - Sarah McGinley and
Ashley Greenwood tied for the team lead with 16 points but Westminster women's basketball (17-9, 16-5 RMAC) fell, 75-66, to MSU Denver (20-8, 15-7 RMAC) on Tuesday night at Behnken Field House in the RMAC Tournament Quarterfinal.
Abby Mangum finished the night with eight points and
Hunter Krebs added eight despite battling foul trouble throughout the evening.
Lyndzi Rich added 14 points and six rebounds off of the bench but MSU Denver owned a 36-14 edge in bench points for the night after Maggie Justinak knocked down 3-of-3 three-pointers to finish with a game-high 18 points. The Roadrunners finished the night 8-of-13 (67 percent) from long range as a team.
Westminster finished the night with 14 offensive rebounds and 10 second-chance points, but saw its worst shooting night (37 percent) since a December home loss to CSU Pueblo.
After ending the regular season as the third-best shooting team in the nation (.478), Westminster was unable to convert around the rim at its usual pace. Despite finishing the game with a 32-18 edge in points in the paint,
Westminster suffered a 7-of-23 shooting fourth quarter (30 percent), finishing 2-of-6 from three in the final period as it attempted to answer the early MSU Denver run.
MSU Denver led the entire second half and began the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run before eventually holding on down the stretch, connecting on 7-of-10 fourth-quarter free throw's to ice the game.
