Silver City, NM - This weekend the Westminster Griffins wrapped up their second straight game on the road in New Mexico. The Griffins had a slow start to the game, but a strong second half brought them back into the game as they were led by
Trey Farrer who led the team in scoring with 32 points on the night and added 10 boards with three assists as the Griffins were defeated by UT Permian Basin offense attack in a 81-72 loss.
The first half started out sluggish for the Westminster Griffins as they quickly saw a three point led by the Permian Basin expand to 48-25 first half lead at the end of the 20 minutes of play.
It was the second half was a key for the Griffins as they came out of the locker room with new energy a they were able to outscore Permian Basin 47-33, but it wasn't enough to capture their first win of the year.
Donaval Avila was the second player in double figures in scoring on the night as he added 12 points and six rebounds on the night.
Lewis Johnson and Middleton Drake each were the next top scorers with seven points each.
The bench scoring for the Griffins saw 16 points from players who stepped off the bench and made an impact on their play as Westminster shot nearly 48 percent from the field and shot a low 14 percent from behind the three-point line and knocked down 26 of the free-throw shots on the night.
