Women's Soccer Finishes Off 2-0 Weekend with 2-0 Win at Hawai'i Pacific

Cassidy Orr and Aimee Kurfurst Each Found the Net in a 2-0 Win for Westminster at Hawai'i Pacific University on Sunday.

WAIPAHU , Hawai'i  —  Cassidy Orr scored her first goal of the season in the 25th minute and Aimee Kurfurst added an insurance goal in the 55th for Westminster women's soccer (2-0), which went on to secure a 2-0 win over Hawai'i Pacific University (1-1) on Sunday.  Senior forward, Rebecca Wheeler, assisted on both goals for the Griffins on offense while Naomi Kehl and Kelsea Cracroft each played a half at goalkeeper to help Westminster to a second-consecutive clean sheet to open the season.

The second-straight win to kick off the season for Westminster gives the Griffins their first 2-0 start since 2016.

The Griffins started fast taking three of the first four shots of the match. The fifth shot of the match ended up in the back of the net when Cassidy Orr struck for her fifth career goal and first of the season off of assists from Rebecca Wheeler and Alexa Maple.  Westminster put another three chances on target in the first half before taking the 1-0 lead into the break.

Naomi Kehl took over at goalkeeper to start the second half and was thrown right into action, making three saves in the opening five minutes of the second half.  Soon after in the 54th minute, Rebecca Wheeler sent a ball across field to find Aimee Kurfurst who scored on a ball that hit the cross bar and dropped in the Sharks' goal to give Westminster a two-goal advantage.

Westminster's defense tightened up and did not allow another shot on target the remainder of the match and the Griffins finished off the shutout to move to 2-0 following its season-opening road trip.

The Griffins will return to Salt Lake City where they will host their home-opener on Thursday night at 7 p.m., against Minot State (0-1).
