SALT LAKE CITY  — Westminster men's soccer (0-2) fell behind early and were unable to equalize before San Francisco State (1-1) pulled away late to win, 3-0, with a pair of goals in the game's final twenty minutes on Saturday night at Dumke Field.

The Griffins played their trademark aggressive style and created pressure around the S.F. State net all game, finishing with 15 shots towards Jo Krumsvik's goal.

Westminster played essentially the entire game on the back foot after S.F. State's Jose Abitia slipped behind the Griffins' back line and put an opening goal past Noah Larkin just 49 seconds into the match.  The goal was one of just two shots created in the entire opening half for the Gators as Westminster responded with constant offensive pressure and high-pressing defense the rest of the first and well into the second frame.

The Gators eventually created additional chances with Westminster sending bodies forward and found the net twice, first on a goal from Santiago Sarmiento in the 73rd minute.  Less than 10 minutes later, it was London Lombana who took advantage of a Gators throw deep into the Westminster half of the field with a hard shot past Larkin to give S.F. State the three-goal advantage.

Westminster will look to bounce back from the tough opening weekend at home when they travel to Northwest Nazarene Univeristy on Thursday, Sept. 9, beginning at 6 p.m. (MDT).
