Volleyball Heads Across the Rockies for Two RMAC Tests

Westminster will be in Denver this weekend to take on Colorado Christian on Friday night and MSU Denver on Saturday afternoon.

SALT LAKE CITY - Following a five-match home stand, Westminster volleyball (3-9, 1-3 RMAC) gets set to embark on its first conference road trip of the fall on a trip to Denver to take on Colorado Christian (5-7, 2-2 RMAC) on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a test against second-ranked MSU Denver (10-2, 4-0 RMAC) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

About the Griffins:
- Westminster will hope to shake off a 3-1 loss to NNU on Tuesday night.  In a match that only saw four sets, Westminster tallied is second-highest number of kills as a team so far this season (61) while hitting .222 collectively on Tuesday night.
- Setter, Bri Mortensen, dished out 45 assists in Tuesday's match vs. NNU and is averaging 7.31 assists/set.
- Griffins' libero, Alanna Lee, has helped keep Westminster in sets all season with 3.74 digs/set.
- Lydia Parkinson (Miller) leads the team with 2.42 kills/set and has added 12 service aces.  She has also contributed 1.88 digs/set with 14 blocks on the year.
- Katie Jacox has been an all-around asset for the Griffins this season and is averaging 2.38 digs/set, 1.46 kills/set, and 1.96 assists/set.  Jacox is tied for second on the team with 22 blocks and has tallied a team-high 17 service aces.
- Middle blocker, Malinda Messner, leads Westminster with 31 total blocks and fellow-freshman Avery Alger leads the team with a .341 hitting percentage while tallying 55 kills (1.53 k/s) so far this season.

About the Cougars:
- CCU began conference play with back-to-back 1-1 weekends.  The Cougars begin the week after a 1-1 road weekend last week at CSU Pueblo and UCCS.  CCU lost, 3-0, to CSU Pueblo but rebounded with a 3-2 win vs. UCCS.
- The Cougars rank sixth in the RMAC at .198 hitting as a team and tied for sixth at 2.02 blocks/set.
- Colorado Christian opened the season with a 2-2 weekend at the Oredigger Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines. CCU defeated Midwestern State and Seattle Pacific on day one, but dropped its next two to a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams, SMSU and Sioux Falls, on day two.
- In their second weekend of non-conference matches, the Cougars went 1-3 at the Wisconsin Parkside Hampton Inn Invitational.
- Westminster is 1-5 all-time against CCU after notching first-ever win over the Cougars in the most recent matchup back in March in four sets.

About the Roadrunners:
- No. 2 MSU Denver owns a 4-0 conference record heading into the weekend and owns a 4-1 record over AVCA Top-25 teams so far this season including a 3-0 win over top-ranked, Concordia-St. Paul at the Colorado Premier Challenge.
- The Roadrunners have dropped just three sets in their four ranked wins and rank second in the RMAC in hitting percentage (.250), assists (13.3), and kills (14.11).
- Rylee Hladky ranks second in the RMAC in points with 163 kills, 21 service aces and 18 total blocks.
- The Roadrunners took out UCCS in straight sets followed by a win over CSU Pueblo in five last weekend, and will host Colorado Mesa this Friday night at 7 p.m. to begin the weekend.
- The Griffins are 0-7 all-time against MSU Denver.

Up Next:
Westminster will be back on the road next weekend to take on Western Colorado and Fort Lewis College before returning home the following week to begin a three-match home stand.
