SALT LAKE CITY - 13th-ranked Westminster women's soccer (3-0-1) had a stretch of over 354 minutes without conceding a goal to begin the fall campaign come to an end on an 85th minute goal from 10th-ranked Northwest Nazarene (2-1-1). The two teams went scoreless in extra time as the top-15 matchup ended in a 1-1 draw at Dumke Field on Saturday afternoon.
For a second-consecutive match, Westminster maintained convincing offensive possession in search of an insurance goal but were unable to find a second goal before NNU's Madison Grande grabbed her second goal of the season to even the match at 1-1 with just six minutes to play.
Alexa Maple put the Griffins ahead with her first goal of the season in the 34th minute on an assist from
Sage Stott. Maple lifted a ball over goalkeeper, Alexis Montoya, and into the left side netting to put Westminster ahead 1-0, a lead it would carry into halftime.
Just off of a series of substitutions for both teams, Northwest Nazarene found room behind the Griffins' defensive line for one of the first times in the match as the Nighthawks finished with just three total shots on net.
The 20-minutes of extra time saw just four total shots between the two sides as the pair of top-15 teams finished in a 1-1 draw.
The Griffins will have a week of rest before opening the RMAC schedule on Thursday, Sept. 23, at home against MSU Denver beginning at 7:30 p.m. (MDT).
