SALT LAKE CITY — For a second-consecutive exhibition match, the Westminster Griffins' women's soccer team utilized heavy possession and set pieces to beat Utah State University Easter, 4-0, in its first and only home exhibition match of the season at Dumke Field on Thursday night.
Westminster was off to a flying start in its second preseason match of the year, scoring just under four minutes into the contest on a perfectly directed corner into the Eagles' penalty area from
Alexa Maple. Maple, who scored one goal and assisted on another, also from a corner kick, in a 2-1 win over Idaho State last Sunday afternoon.
Kate Munger doubled the Griffins lead in the 35th minute, beating two defenders with speed and skill and blasting a shot past Eagles goalkeeper, Macy Clements.
The Griffins added another two goals in the second half to seal its first win on Dumke Field this season. Westminster will now focus on regular-season matches, opening play next Thursday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, beginning at 5 p.m. (MDT).
