RAPID CITY, S.D.—
Max Bingman and
Armin Hasanovic secured a 2-0 win for men's soccer over South Dakota Mines. The Griffins (3-2-1. 3-0-1 RMAC) remain unbeaten in conference play and in contention for the top spot in division heading into the RMAC tournament.
The Griffins had three corner kicks and took 13 shots with nine on goal, and kept the Hardrockers to eight shots, five on goal, with just one corner kick.
Bingman scored his third goal of the season and the game-winner in the 26
th minutes. The Griffins had five shots, three on goal, before finding the back of the net. The Griffins had a few corner kicks but did not have another shot for the rest of the half after taking the lead. Goalkeeper
Ian Rose made three first-half saves to keep the Hardrockers off the scoreboard.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Hasanovic scored his first goal as a Griffin to put Westminster ahead by two.
Zach Moss came close to netting Westminster's third goal in the 51
st minute and
Matt Penrod had chance in the 85
th, both stopped by SD Mines goalkeeper Tyler Ring. Ian Rase earned the shutout with a save in the 53
rd and 67
th minute.
Ian Rose made a season-high five saves to earn Westminster's first shutout of the season.
Ten Griffins recorded shots with eight putting shots on target.
Gavin Flitton, Marshall Jonson and Bingman led the team with two shots each.
The Griffins finish the season with Colorado Mesa at home on Sunday, Apr. 11, at 12 pm.
