Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

23rd-Ranked Regis Spoils Volleyball Senior Night

Westminster volleyball's fall 2021 season came to a close in a 3-0 loss to No. 23 Regis on Saturday night at the Behnken Field House.

SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster volleyball (5-23, 3-15 RMAC) saw its fall 2021 season come to a close on Saturday as 23rd-ranked Regis (20-6, 15-3 RMAC) won 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-18) on Saturday night at the Behnken Field House.

Avery Alger led the Griffins with 11 kills on the night while Bri Mortensen finished with 23 assists but the Wetsminster attack was never able to get fully going, finishing with a .147 attack percentage on the night.

After a comfortable 25-18 first-set win from the Rangers, Westminster came storming back late in the second with a dominant 8-2 run that tied the set at 24-24.  The Griffins had just two attack errors as a team in the second set in which they finished at .302 hitting as a team and answered another fast start from Regis.

The Griffins trailed 16-8 in the second set when its attack came to life behind strong swings from Lydia Parkinson (Miller) and Avery Alger.  Mortensen, the Griffins' setter, also added a pair of kills to help cut into the Ranger lead and a late rally with Katie Jacox put Westminster right back into the match.  Despite the strong comeback to even the set late at 24-24, Regis found its way out with a pair of Hannah Kepler kills to pull ahead by two sets in the match.

Westminster turned the tables to begin the third set, jumping out the early lead, but Regis responded quickly and never relinquished its lead after going up 11-10.  The Rangers went on a 10-3 lead to go up, 21-16, and closed the match with three more Kepler kills to win the third, 25-18.

The Griffins, which finished their 2021 season on a five-match losing skid, will turn its attention to the offseason and a fresh start in 2022 after matching its season win total from the last pre-COVID season of 2019.  Westminster will bring back a large majority of its starters, as it bid farewell to just three seniors in Saturday's home finale.
