Men's Soccer to Host RMAC Quarterfinal; Free Admission to First 40 Students

Westminster men's soccer will host the first round of the 2021 RMAC Men's Soccer Tournament against Regis on Thursday night at 6 p.m.

SALT LAKE CITY - For a second consecutive men's soccer postseason, Westminster men's soccer (9-9, 6-4 RMAC) will host an RMAC Tournament quarterfinal match as it takes on Regis (9-7-1, 5-5 RMAC) on Thursday night at Dumke Field beginning at 6 p.m.  Westminster Athletics will off free admission to the first 40 students through the gate with an active Westminster student ID.

-  Tickets for Thursday's RMAC Tournament quarterfinal match can be purchased at westminstergriffins.com/tickets
-  General admission into Dumke Field will be $10. Admission for children and seniors will be $5. 
-  Westminster College students, faculty and staff are required to purchase general admission tickets into all RMAC postseason events.  Free admission will be granted to the first 40 students in attendance at Thursday's match vs. Regis.
-  All Westminster men's soccer matches are available for FREE streaming on the RMAC Network.  Viewers can watch games live or on-demand at RMACnetwork.com/Westminster or on the RMAC Network app which is available to download from all major app stores.

RMAC Men's Soccer Tournament:
- Third-seeded Westminster gets set to host a quarterfinal matchup for a second-straight season after falling 2-0 to Fort Lewis in last season's RMAC quarterfinal at Dumke Field.
- Four-time defending tournament champion and top-seeded Colorado School of Mines as well as second-seeded Colorado Mesa will each await the results of Thursday's quarterfinal matches as they prepare to host the semifinal round of the tournament on Sunday.
- The winner of Westminster (3) vs. Regis (6) will travel to Grand Junction, Colo., to take on Colorado Mesa on Sunday at  3 p.m.
- The RMAC Championship (date & time TBA) will be played at the site of the highest remaining seed following Sunday's semifinal matches.
-  Westminster has now qualified for the RMAC Tournament in four-consecutive seasons but still awaits the program's first-ever tournament win.

About the Griffins: 
- The Griffins moved up two spots to No. 8 in the latest men's DII NCAA South Central Region rankings after making its first appearance of the season last week at No. 10.
- Westminster begins the week with wins in three of its last four including a 1-0 win at Colorado Christian last Friday that clinched its postseason spot.
- The Griffins' returned home this past Sunday where they honored their eight graduating seniors prior to a one-goal loss to 17th-ranked Colorado School of Mines.
- Westminster kept Colorado School of Mines, now ranked 12th in the nation, scoreless over the final 89 minutes of the game after beginning Sunday's match with a first-minute goal.
- Midfielder Adam Koblanski (4) leads the team in goals scored while Max Bingman, Luke Merrill and Skyler Kjellander are tied with three goals each. 
- The Griffins have seen goals scored by 14 different field players and have 17 assists as a team during the regular season.
- Ian Rose sits fourth in the conference with a 1.002 goals against average and is fifth with 3.86 saves per game.

About the Rangers:
- Regis won its final two matches of the regular season last week to sneak into the RMAC Tournament with a head-to-head tiebreaker over Fort Lewis which it defeated 2-1 at home on Friday.
- The Rangers then captured full points to close out the regular season with a 4-1 win over Adams State, clinching their spot in the postseason.
- This will mark the sixth-straight appearance in the RMAC Tournament for Regis. The Rangers won their quarterfinal match, 1-0, over second-ranked CSU Pueblo this spring but lost 3-1 to Colo. Mesa in the semifinal round in Grand Junction, Colo.
- Regis advanced to the 2019 RMAC Championship match, falling to Colorado School of Mines on penalty kicks.
-  Vihjamur Kaldal led the Rangers with 10 goals in the regular season and finished in a four-way tie for the lead in assists with three.  Kaldal scored one in each of the Rangers' two wins last weekend.
-  Teammate Kristian Hooker is second on the team with seven goals while Lucas Durval is third with four goals.
- Tim Dolan, last week's RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week, has given up just 11 goals (1.2 gaa) and has a 4-4-1 record on the season while Cooper Erickson has a 5-3 record in his eight starts in net.

Series History:
- Regis leads the all-time series 15-6-1 but the Griffins have won three straight including the last two games at Dumke Field.
- The Griffins haven't allowed a goal in three matches vs. Regis and won the past three games by a combined score of 5-0.
- Westminster defeated Regis, 1-0, just a couple of weeks back on Oct. 22 off of a goal from Armin Hasanovic.
- Each team put up 15 shots in the Oct. 22 match at Dumke Field but Westminster finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
- Ian Rose finished five saves and answered the bell multiple times in the second half to keep Regis off of the scoresheet in the 1-0 win.
- The all-time series, which dates back to 1984, was dominated by Regis early as the Rangers won the first six matchups back in the 80's.
- Westminster's first win came in Nov. of 1989, winning 1-0 on the road in Denver.  The Griffins did not win a match in Salt Lake City until a 3-0 win at Dumke Field back in 2018.
