MBB Preview: At CCU

SALT LAKE CITY—The men's basketball season got 2021 started with a 65-60 home-win over Chadron State. They are on the road this weekend with games at Colorado Christian on Friday at 7 pm and MSU Denver on Saturday at 7 pm. Watch the games live on the RMAC Network.

The Griffins and Mountain Lions have played nine times since 2010. Westminster leads the series 7-2, are 5-0 at home and 2-2 at CCU. Westminster won the first game, 69-64, at home on Nov. 27, 2010, and went on a four-game win-streak.

Friday's game is the second time these teams will meet this season. In the opening weekend of the season, Westminster defeated CCU, 79-71, in Salt Lake City.

Westminster is third in the conference standings. They were picked tied-10th in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with Western Colorado.

  • Joey Andrews and Isaiah Banks lead the team in scoring. Andrews averages 13.0 points per game and Banks averages 11.2.
  • Andrews is second in the conference in rebounding with 8.8 rebounds per game. He is 10th in the conference 53.3% from the field. Reme Torbert and Banks are second with 4.2 rebounds per game.
Mountain Lions (2-7, 2-7 RMAC)
  • Ross Williams and Andy Stafford are first and third in 3-point field goal percentage in the conference. Williams shoots 51.9% from three and averages 4.6 threes per game. Stafford is 47.2 % making 2.1 threes per game.
  • Four players average double-digit scoring. Williams and Stafford are the teams leading scorers averaging 23.9 and 17.5 points per game respectively. DJ McDonald averages 13.7 and Justin Engesser averages 10.5.
