GRAND JUNCTIONS, Colo.--The Westminster women's lacrosse team opened the season with a neutral site game against Rockhurst University. The Griffins suffered their first defeat, 21-13, to the Hawks.
The Griffins were efficient in the attack with 32 shots and 26 on goal. Seven Griffins scored with five scoring multiple goals.
Phebe Walker led the team with three goals and two assists. Meliss Reeves,
Allie McNeill and
Audree Erekson each scored two goals and one assist.
Emmaline Russel led the Griffins with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Lauren Shoughro picked up five ground balls and hade one caused turnover and won two draw controls.
The Griffins trailed by one with halfway through the first half. Rockhurst finished first half on a 7-2 run and began the second half on a 5-2 run to for control of the game and a nine-point lead, 17-8.
The Griffins host Colorado Mesa at home on Mar. 21 at 1 pm MST.
