Griffins Hold On For Road Win Over CSU-Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo.—Westminster's men's basketball team spread the points around in a 60-56 road-win over CSU-Pueblo.

Westminster led for most of the game. Twice it led by 13 points, its largest lead, once in the first half and at the beginning of the second. The Griffins bench out scored the Thunderwolves 38-28 in the paving and the Griffin bench out scored their opponents 21-7.

With five minutes left in the game CSU-Pueblo had taken the lead, 47-48. Brayden Johnson scored on the next possession to restore the Griffins' lead. Reme Torbert rebounded a missed Pueblo shot and the Griffins went up by three as Joey Andrews hit a jumper on the other end.

Matt Kitzman and Johnson kept the team in front scoring the final nine points for Westminster. Johnson. Both scored a layup and went 5-6 from the line to finish the game.

The Griffins shot 41% from the field, made just two threes and shot 57.1% from the stripe. They out rebounded the Thunderwolves 34-28.

Kitzman, Johnson and Andrews each had 10 points to lead the Griffins in scoring. Isaiah Banks and Brandon Willardson both scored eight. Banks led the team with three assists.

Johnson led the team with a career-high eight rebounds. Andrews and Banks each grabbed seven.

The Griffins return to action in the new year with two home games against UCCS on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and Chadron State on Saturday, Jan. 9.
