SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster women's basketball won its second straight game to open conference play, riding a 25-6 third quarter to a 69-53 victory over Black Hills State on Friday night at Behnken Field House.
The Griffins held a one-point lead at the half, but outscored the Yellow Jackets by 19 points in the third quarter to take a 20-point lead into the fourth. Black Hills State cut the deficit to 13 at one point, but couldn't overcome the deficit.
Mariah Martin led the Griffins with 18 points, five assists and five rebounds. Kailtin Toluono added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Hunter Krebs and
Sarah McGinley pitched in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Racquel Wientjes led all scorers with 22 points to pace the Yellow Jackets.
Westminster improved to 7-1 and 2-0 in conference play, while Black Hills State fell to 4-3 and 1-1 in the RMAC.
The Griffins are back in action tomorrow, hosting South Dakota Mines. Tip off is set for 5:30 pm. The game will be streamed live in the
RMAC Network.
