Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster men's basketball used a furious fourth-quarter rally to secure its first RMAC victory of the season – a thrilling 65-64 win over Black Hills State on Friday night at Behnken Field House.
Trailing by 10 points with five minutes to go, the Griffins outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-6 from that point forward.
Brandon Warr, held to just five points until he caught fire late in the fourth quarter, hit a floater then back-to-back three pointers in the final two minutes. The second of his two 3-pointers gave the Griffins a 65-64 lead with a minute to go.
With under a minute left and a chance to pad their one-point lead, Warr missed a jumper that was rebounded by Black Hills State with 15 seconds left. Tyler Oliver drove into the paint and took a tough, fadeaway jumper that was off, and time expired as the two teams fought for the rebound.
Warr finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Jai Jai Ely led the Griffins in scoring with 16.
Alec Monson added 13 points and
Joonas Tahvanainen pitched in 12 points.
Joel Scott led all scorers with 18 points for the Yellow Jackets.
Westminster takes on South Dakota Mines tomorrow, with tip off set for 7:30 pm. The game will be streamed live on the
RMAC Network.
