LAS VEGAS, N.M.--The #17 Westminster women's basketball team increased it's win-streak to five games with an overtime victory over New Mexico Highlands.
Sarah McGinley and
Hunter Krebs combined for 49 points to lead the Griffins past the Cowgirls.
The Griffins dominated in the paint and underneath the basket, outscoring the home team 46-26 and out rebounding them 48-28. The Griffins grabbed 21 offensive rebounds and scored 18 second chance points.
"Our monster travel schdule, nine on the road, caught up with us this weekend, but we found ways to win," Head Coach
Shelley Jarrard said. Highlands has some terrific players and we couldn't stop Lewis tonight."
The Griffins trailed, 63-60, with two minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Griffins had three chances on the next possession as McGinley and
Rian Rawlings each grabbed an offensive rebound.
Kaylee Carlsen passed to McGinley who made from three to tie the game and send the game to overtime.
McGinley, Krebs and Carlsen each scored as the Griffins went on an 11-0 run for their largets lead, 11 points, and the eventual win, 74-66.
McGinley made 7-13 from three and was 10-21 to lead the Griffins with 28 points. She pulled down 12 rebounds for the double-double and had three assists and two steals.
Krebs scored 21 points for the second game in a row. Carlsen and
Mariah Martin scored in double-figures with 10 points each.
"Sarah Really lit it up against the zone and we needed a big scoring lift from her tonight. Hunter really carried us this weekend. She had a fantastic back-to-back," Jarrard said.
The Griffins are home for an alumni game just before the holiday break on December 20. They will open 2020 at home against Colorado School of Mines, Jan. 3, and University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Jan. 4.
