SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster women's volleyball (5-18, 2-13 RMAC) beat New Mexico Highlands (1-22, 0-15 RMAC) in four sets for the Griffins' second conference victory of the season.
Audrey Green led the Griffins with 22 kills, a season-high, and
Lydia Miller and
Sydnee Simmons added 11 kills each as Westminster won 3-1 (25-12, 27-25, 24-26, 26-24).
In the first set, Westminster held a 10-8 lead and rattled off six straight points to stretch the score to 16-8 and take control of the set. Green had three kills during that stretch and finished the set with five.
The second set saw the Griffins holding a 20-15 lead when the Cowgirls scored four straight to get back into the set. The teams traded points until Highlands held a 25-24 lead. The Griffins scored the next three points to win the set.Â
Highlands took the third set behind a 6-0 run and six kills from Camryn Nelson to avoid the sweep.Â
The Cowgirls carried momentum into the fourth set, jumping out to a 10-5 advantage and extended the lead to 20-13. The Griffins then went on a 10-1 run to take a 23-21 lead, with three kills from Miller keying the run. The Cowgirls responded to tie the game at 24, but the Griffins put the set and match away with kills from
Katie Jacox and Green.Â
Westminster will play on the road next weekend at Colorado Christian University on Friday, November 8 and at Regis University on Saturday, November 9. Both games will be streamed live on the
RMAC Network.Â
