SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster men's basketball will look to continue its hot start at the Dixie State Classic, where the Griffins will face Saint Martin's University and the University of Providence (Montana).
Westminster began its season hosting the Conference Challenge and notched victories over the University of Texas at Tyler and Texas A&M University-Commerce. The Griffins were led by the trio of
Jake Connor,
Brandon Warr and
Alec Monson, each averaging over 15 points per game.
Joonas Tahvanainen is averaging 10 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Jai Jai Ely is pitching in 12.5 point per game.
Saint Martin's lost its season opener by 33 points to UC San Diego, the No. 5-ranked team in the county. The Saints went 26-6 overall and 17-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference last season, but lost four of their top-five scorers to graduation. Saint Martin's returns just two players who average more than 10 minutes per game in 2018-19.
Providence is 3-0, with the Argonauts' closest margin of victory at 10 points. They have won by 26, 10 and 44 points over their three victories. Zaccheus Darko-Kelly is averaging 21.5 points per game to lead Providence.
