SALT LAKE CITY, Utah—The Westminster women's volleyball team bounced back from a loss to Colorado Mesa on Friday, and finished the weekend with a win over Western State University. The Griffins defeated the Mountaineers in four sets.
Friday was Westminster's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) home-opener against Colorado Mesa. The Griffins played strong and competed with the Mavericks for the first two-thirds of sets one and two but the Mavericks pulled away with late runs to defeat Westminster 25-17 and 25-18 respectively.
The Mavericks took the momentum from winning the first two sets and won the third set, 25-10, and the match.
Westminster's start against Western state was not ideal as Western State jumped to an 8-2 lead. Westminster began chipping away at the visitor's lead and got within two-points, 13-15. Western State got hot and finished wining the set, 25-16.
The Griffins got back on track and won the match after winning the next three sets. Westminster was trailing, 18-21, and came back to win the second set 25-23. The Griffins led for the entirety of the third set to win, 25,18. At 12-12 in the fourth set, Westminster made a 9-1 run for the final lead of the set and continued on to win, 25-20.
Sophomore
Audrey Green led the Griffins' attack with 16 kills. Junior
Taylor Harvey recorded nine kills and freshman
Lydia Miller had eight kills. Junior Aggie Roese-Olsen tallied 33 assists and two aces.
Sophomore
Jaylee Lehenbauer led the team with 20 digs. Green recorded 17 and Olsen recorded 12.
Westminster continues its RMAC conference play with home matches against Adams State and Fort Lewis on Friday and Saturday.
