GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Westminster women's lacrosse team played its final regular season road game at Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks (9-2, 6-2 RMAC) cruised to a victory over the Griffins, 20-9. Westminster (5-5, 4-3 RMAC) plays Fort Lewis and Adams State, at home, for the final regular season games.
Colorado Mesa jumped out to a four point lead, in the first three minutes of the game, before
Allison Lambert scored, her 10th goal of the season, to get the Griffins on the scoreboard. Lambert completed a hat-trick, scoring the next two goals for Westminster, and
Audree Erekson scored a free position goal.
Mikala Anderson came up with six saves, two on free-position shots. The Griffins trailed by eight, 8-12, going in to halftime.
Westminster slowed Colorado Mesa down a little bit in the second half but were unable to stop them and make up any of the deficit from the first half.
Katie Adams scored early in the half, but it was nearly 20 minutes until Westminster scored again. Adams and
Brenlee Fordham scored in the final two minutes as Westminster finished the game behind, 7-20.
Westminster was out shot 39 to 19, 28 to 14 shots on goal. The Griffins won 14 draw controls, matching the Mavericks, and had seven free-position shots to Mesa's five. Mesa came out ahead with 22 ground balls to 14.
Lambert led the Griffins with four three points from her hat-trick.
Katie Adams came next with two points from two goals.
Erekson and Frodham each scored a goal for one point and
Katie Hendershott had a point for an assist on Lambert's third goal.
Daisy Mele led teh Griffins with three ground balls. She also won two draw controls. Erekscon,
Madison Ingman, Anderson,and
Emmaline Russell each picked up two ground balls. Ingman recorded three draw control wins, and Erekson and Adams led the team with four draw controls each.
Anderson faced 39 shots and made eight saves.
The Griffins return to Dumke field for the final two regular season games in two weeks against Fort Lewis (Apr. 27) and Adams State (Apr. 29).
