Griffins honor seniors with a convincing win over Colorado Mesa, 75-56

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah—Westminster honored its seniors and completed a sweep of its competition with a win over Colorado Mesa.  The Griffins are 11-6 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition and 12-9 overall.

The Griffins performed well and put on a show for the fans that gathered to see their final home game of the season.  The game was tied once, at 0-0, for 1:04 seconds.  Hunter Krebs followed up two free throws with a 3-pointer to give the Griffins a five-point lead.  Westminster held on to that lead until the final horn, 38 minutes and 55 seconds.

The first half was a 3-point shooting bonanza.  Westminster made 8-11, 72.7 percent from downtown and Colorado Mesa made 5-13.  Hunter Krebs made 3-3, Kaylee Carlsen made 3-3 and Denise Gonzalez made 2-2.  Krebs and Gonzalez were also perfect from the free throw line and combined for 29 of the Griffins' 42 points.

With 4:03 left in the third quarter, the Mavericks had reduced the Griffin lead to three and looked poised to steal the lead for the first time.  Kaylee Carlsen drained a three and started a 21-4 run that put Westminster in the lead by 20 points with 4:39 remaining.  Krebs scored 10 points, Carlsen scored five and Gonzalez contributed five during the run.
