Women's Lacrosse Splits on the Road

The women's lacrosse team began the 2018 season, on the road, at George Fox University and Pacific University.  They lost a competitive game to George Fox, 10-13, and won at Pacific with a dominating performance, 17-4.
 
The Griffin attack was led by Madison Ingman (So. / Jordan HS) and Katie Adams (Sr. / Olympus HS).  Ingman scored one goal and had one assist against George Fox then followed up with an eight goal performance against Pacific.  She was named the Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Adams scored the first goal of the season for the Griffins.  She netted three times against George Fox and four times against Pacific.
 
Katie Hendershott (Jr. / Bishop Kelly HS) scored two goals and had three assists.  Brenlee Fordham (Fr.) scored three times and tallied one assists.  Daisy Mele (Sr.) and Audree Erekson (So. / Herriman HS) each scored twice, and Phebe Walker (So. / North Point HS) and Hanah Webster (Sr. / Alta HS) have one goal each.
 
The team has taken 74 shots with 55 on goal.  They scored 27 goals for a .365 shot percentage.  They have collected 48 ground balls, caused 18 turnovers, won 28 draw controls and are 22-30 on clearances.
 
Mikala Anderson played in front of goal against George Fox.  She faced 30 shots and came up with 12 saves.
 
Taylor Hekking started in goal against Pacific.  She faced nine shots and made five saves.  Caitlyn Laffey entered the game and finished the final 10 minutes.  She faced two shots and made one save
 
Home and Conference Opener Mar. 3
 
Westminster opens its conference play against Colorado Mesa on Mar. 3.  The game is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. and will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.  Live stats will also be available online.  Links can be found on the schedule webpage.
 
Tickets can be purchased online in advance of the game, or at the gate the day off the game.

About the Griffins

The Griffins finished 2017 with a 7-6 overall record and a 5-4 conference.  Finishing in fifth place, Westminster made it into the conference championships but suffered defeat to Fort Lewis, 9-12, in the first game.  The Griffins were picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches' poll. 

Westminster returns 16 players from last season's squad.  "The experience and leadership from these players is helping the freshmen integrate and will help us keep the momentum from last season," head coach Nikonia Harding said.
 
The attack returns five players that were among the top seven point earners from last year—Katie Adams, Allison Lambert, Madison Ingman, Audree Erekson (So. / Herriman HS), and Katie Hendershott (.
 
Adams was second on the team with 41 points.  She scored 34 goals and tallied seven assists in 13 games.  She was ranked fifth in the RMAC averaging 2.62 goals per game.
 
Lambert scored 26 goals and tallied seven assists for 33 points.  Ingman recorded 31 points with 23 goals and eight assists.  Erekson scored 15 and had three assists for 18 points, and Hendershott scored sick and assisted 11 goals for 17 points.
 
Daisy Mele returns for the Griffin defense, and Taylor Hekking returns in goal.
 
Mele was named to this year's All-RMAC Preseason Team.  She led the Griffins gathering 36 groundballs and tallying 19 caused turnovers.  She was fifth in the conference for ground balls, averaging 2.7 per game.
 
Hekking averaged 6.31 saves per game and was ranked seventh in the conference with 46.3 save percentage.
 
The team attempted 27.3 shots per game, averaging 14.2 goals per game. 

Looking Ahead

The Griffins play the next four games away on the road.  They face BYU on Mar. 10, Oklahoma Baptist University on Mar. 13, Rockhurst University on Mar. 16 and Lindenwood University on Mar. 18.
