DENVER, Colo.—Westminster men's basketball falls to Regis, 81-72. The Griffins go into the final week of the season 16-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and 20-4 overall.
Turnovers proved too much to overcome as Regis took advantage and scored 27 points off of Westminster's 21 turnovers.
Both teams traded three-point baskets to begin the game, Regis scoring first then Westminster. That was the only time the game was tied and the first time the Griffins didn't have a lead during a game.
Westminster trailed by six points at the end of the first half, 25-31, and went 9-25 from the field, 2-5 from beyond the arc, and 5-7 from the charity stripe. o outrebounded Regis 24-11 and had 12 turnovers.
Dayon Goodman recorded a double-double in the first half, scoring 19 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Seven minutes into the second half, Westminster was within three points of the home side. Regis made an 11-0 run for their largest lead of the game, 14-points. Westminster fought back and reduced Regis's lead to six and five points, five times during the final ten minutes.
Westminster shot better in the second half making 15-29 from the field, 6-16 from three-point range and 11-14 from the stripe. Goodman scored 17 points and
Quincy Bair contributed 12.
Sam Orchard had nine,
Tanner Newbold scored six,
Mason Smith scored two and
Scott Cook had one.
Goodman led all players with 36 points and 14 rebounds.
Bair and Orchard each scored double-digit points. Bair scored 12 and Orchard scored 11.
Bair pulled down seven rebounds while Cook, Smith and Newbold each collected four.
Westminster finishes the year at Adams State on Thursday and Fort Lewis on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast on the RMAC Network and available through live stats.
