PROVO--A new look Westminster men's basketball team stepped on the court for an exhibition game against BYU.  The Griffins return only four players, three from last year and one from 2015-16 that returned from a mission.  Eight players made their Westminster debut in tonights game.

The game against BYU provided important game time for a team that has never played together.  BYU also presents challenges that the Griffins won't see during conference play in the RMAC.

"There's no Yoeli Child in the RMAC and no teams that we play have as many attacking options," Parrish said. "It makes us concentrate defensively."

The Griffins had a difficult time converting chances into baskets during the first half.  They ended the first half 5-28 from the field, 2-8 from 3-point range and 6-9 from the stripe.  Westminster trailed 35-18 as they went to the locker room at half time.

"I felt we defended how we wanted," Head Coach Norm Parrish said heading in at the half.  "We missed some good chances and took some bad shots."

Westminster scored 25 points second half points.  They were 10-30 from the field, 3-7 from beyond the arc and 2-4 from the free-throw line.

The game ended 72-43 in favor of BYU.

Brandon Warr and Jacob McCord recorded double-digit scores.  Warr led the team with 12 points, going 4-13 from the field, 2-5 for threes and 2-3 from the stripe.  McCord made 4-10 field goals and finished 2-4 on free throws.

The Griffins play UVU, on Tuesday, in the UCCU Center.
