Grand Junction, CO. – On Saturday night the Westminster Griffins battled the third place Colorado Mesa Mavericks on the road, but the Mavericks Kasie Gilfert led the way with 16 kills to help Colorado Mesa win three straight sets as the Griffins end the weekend 1-1 in Colorado.
Audrey Green led the Griffins with eight kills in the three sets and added four digs with
Amber Lamborn having five kills of her own.
Sydnee Simmons had three blocks which led the team on the night.
The night started out exactly the way Colorado Mesa wanted to with 25-13 set one victory. In set two the Griffins made some adjustment, but the Mavericks overpowered them in the second set victory 25-17. The final set of the night the Mavericks started the set out with a 6-1 advantage and despite a late surge from Westminster, Colorado Mesa ended the set 25-19.
The Griffins wrapped up the first two road games of the four-game road trip as next weekend two more important conference matches starting with New Mexico Highlands on Friday, Oct. 19 and then a Saturday night match vs Colorado State University – Pueblo on Oct. 20.
