The women's basketball team falls to Colorado School of Mines

A slow start to the first and second halves was too much for the Griffins to overcome

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Westminster women's basketball team fell to Colorado School of Mines (9-5, 6-3 RMAC), 70-59.  The Griffins finished the weekend 6-6 overall and 5-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. 
 
Colorado School of Mines held a 10 point lead to end of the first quarter, outscoring the Griffins, 22-12.  Westminster scored 11 points in the second quarter and finished the half trailing by eight, 31-23.
 
The Griffins and Orediggers traded a couple of baskets to begin the third quarter before the home side went on a 12-4 run and increasing its lead to 14 points with 6:12 remaining.  The quarter finished 53-37.
 
Hunter Krebs scored eight points during the fourth quarter, leading the Griffins to its strongest performance of the game and outscoring the Orediggers, 22-17. Colorado School of Mines finished with a win, 70-59.
 
The Griffins made 23-of-66 shots, shooting 34.8 percent from the field and were perfect from the free throw line.  The Orediggers shot 37.5 percent but scored 21 points off of turnovers and went to the free throw line 24 times, making 17.
 
Hunter Krebs blocked four shots and scored 21 point, leading both teams in scoring.  She was the only Griffin that went to the charity stripe and was perfect on six attempts.
 
Denise Gonzalez finished the game with 12 points.  Sydnee Taylor, Sicilee Williams, and Elise Carpenter each had six rebounds.
 
The Griffins return to the Behnken Fieldhouse to play Regis on Friday and Chadron State on Saturday.  Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are available for purchase online in advance, and at the door prior to the game.  The game will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.  Live stats will be available online.
