SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster defeated Chadron State (1-10, 3-14 RMAC) and improved to 8-7 overall and 7-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Westminster and Chadron were tied at the end of the first quarter, each team scoring ten points, and nearly ended the first half tied, 33-32, a one-point lead in favor of the Eagles.
Denise Gonzalez put 11 points on the scoreboard, scoring six in the first quarter and five in the second quarter.
Kaylee Carlsen and
Sicilee Williams each scored five for the home side.
The Griffins were at their best during the third quarter, starting the quarter with a 11-2 run, and outscoring the away side 19-6. Westminster was strong in the paint, pulling down 13 rebounds and scoring 18 points to Chadron's 2.
Hunter Krebs went 4-5 from the field, scoring eight points.
The Griffins increased their lead by five points during the fourth quarter and finished the game defeating the Eagles, 70-53. Gonzalez scored 12 points during the quarter and was perfect from the free throw line on eight attempts.
Gonzalez finished the night with 27 points, nine assists, four steals, and one blocked shot. She collected nine rebounds and was one shy of a double-double.
Westminster hits the road next week and travels to South Dakota to play Black Hills State on Thursday and South Dakota School of Mines & Technology on Saturday. The games will be broadcast on the RMAC Network and can be followed on live stats.
