Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colorado: Westminster was defeated at Colorado Christian in three sets (26-24, 25-18 and 25-9) on Thursday night. The Cougars came into the match with an overall record of 4-7, and 2-1 in conference play, the Griffins stood at 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the RMAC.
Colorado Christian led for most of the first set but would not run away with it. In the latter half, the Griffins we're up 24-23 before three key plays by Colorado Christian would take the lead. The Cougars ultimately won the first set 26-24 when the winning point was served up as an ace by senior
Joelle LeFevre, her second of the set. Leading the way in the opening set was senior opposite hitter
Sophia Proano with six kills.
The second set saw Westminster open the scoring by notching the first point of the set, but the Cougars would control the action after that, never trailing again and winning the set 25-18. The second set saw four players notching two or more kills to ultimately edge the Griffins. Defensively the Griffins struggled and did not have an answer for Sophia Proano who led Colorado Christan and all-hitters with 16 kills, 2 errors on 28 swings and hit .538.
Offensively, Westminster served well and
Amara Spere and
Whitney Wakefield hit .278 and .273 in the loss while
Audrey Green added a team high seven kills.
Megan Gallegos led in the digs count with 12.
