Griffins Conference Home Opener

The Westminster women's volleyball team (3-5/0-0) looks to build off last weekends 3-1 second-place tournament run as they host RMAC members Colorado Mesa and Western State in the conference opener.  Friday the Mavericks (7-2) enter the Behnken Fieldhouse having won the past five matches and a 3-0 victory over Western State on Tuesday.  The action begins at 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed on the RMAC Network and available through live stats.  Tickets can be purchased in advance online or day of the match one-hour prior to start time at patron entrance. 
 
Saturday at 4:00 p.m.the Griffins face Western State Colorado (1-9) in the second of two conference matchups. 
  
The Week in Review
At the Westminster Invitatioinal the Griffins went (1-1) losing to undefeated Harding 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-17) and bouncing back to defeat Malone (Ohio) in the tournament finale 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22)  securing a second place tournament finish going (3-1).  Westminster moves to 3-5 on the season.  

In the first match, Amara Spere and Whitney Wakefield led the Griffins with 8 kills each, followed by Audrey Green with 7. Taylor Gustafson ended up with 15 assists, followed by Emilie Austin with 14.  The Griffins ended up with 41 digs, 8.5 blocks, 26 attack errors and five service errors in the loss.

In the evening match, Westminster totaled 43 kills as a team with  Audrey Green leading the way with 11, Sydnee Simmons 8 and Whitney Wakefield 6.  Taylor Gustafson set 22 assists. Defensively the Griffins had nine blocks and 37 digs, 11 of those by Megan Gallegos and Audrey Green with 10.  Katie HutchingsSydnee Simmons and Audrey Green finished with three blocks.   

Harding University (Ark.) finished in the top spot with a tournament record of (4-0), followed by second place Westminster (3-1), University of West Alabama (2-2), Malone University (Ohio) (1-3) and Western New Mexico University (0-4).

The Tournament MVP was setter Rachel Heussner from Harding University.

Looking Ahead
The Griffins continue RMAC play next weekend with road matches vs. Colorado Christian on Thursday at 7:00 pm and Colorado Mines 5:00 pm on Saturday.  Fans can watch the action via the RMAC Network.
