PORTLAND, Oregon – The Westminster women's volleyball team opened the 2017 season with a 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 28-26) loss to Lubbuck Christian and a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15) loss to host Concordia (Ore.) at the Concordia Labor Day Tournament.
In the first match, Westminster produced 39 kills hitting .143, while Lubbuck Christian edged the Griffins in both categories with 48 kills and a hitting percentage of .170. The Griffins would record 70 digs, three aces and nine blocks in the defeat.
Sydnee Simmons led the Griffins with 10 kills hitting .320,
Taylor Harvey had seven kills and
Megan Gallegos recorded 20 digs in the three sets.
Audrey Green tallied seven kills in her collegiate debut.
Emilie Austin and
Taylor Gustafson handled the setting with 19 and 17 assists each.
In the afternoon match verse host Concordia-Portland, Westminster totaled 26 kills and struggled hitting .088. The host totaled 46 kills and hit .267. The Griffins recorded 70 digs, two aces and only three blocks in the defeat.
Taylor Harvey led the Griffins with nine kills, with Sydnee Simmons and
Audrey Green each hitting five a piece.
Megan Gallegos recorded 22 digs and
Taylor Gustafson had 15 assists in the three sets.
Westminster continues plays at the Concordia Labor Day Tournament the with two matches on Saturday. They face Western Oregon Univ. at 10:30 am. MT before a final 6:00 p.m. MT match against Cal-State Dominguez Hills.

2017 Westminster Invitational in the Behnken Field House.
