SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's lacrosse team battled through a heavy rain storm to defeat Brigham Young 16-8 on Saturday afternoon at Dumke Field.

Westminster got six goals from
Kira Heiden and another five from
Madison Ingman in the win. They used a 5-1 run early in the first half to take a lead that was never threatened.

The Griffins outshot BYU 33-29 with 24 of those attempts on goal. They claimed 18 of 25 draw controls with nine ground balls to 11 from the Cougars. Westminster committed 23 turnovers and each team made eight saves.

Katie Adams gave the Griffins a third 5-point scorer in the game as she tallied two goals and three assists. Heiden took a team-high 10 shots and Adams earned nine draw controls.

Mikala Anderson got the start in cage and made four saves to earn the win.
Taylor Hekking played the second half with four saves of her own.

Whitney Sieverts led BYU with three goals.

Westminster returns to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on Friday when they face Adams State at noon in Alamosa, Colo.
