SALT LAKE CITY – The women's basketball team (4-6, 3-3 RMAC) finished the weekend with a win over Adams State (2-6, 0-6 RMAC). The Griffins did enough, through the first three quarters, to build a 23-point and defeat the Grizzlies 66-56.
The Griffins were 13-of-28 from the field in the first half and 12-of-13 from the free throw line but they only managed one 3-pointer out of seven tries.
Hunter Krebs scored 10 first half points and Denise Gonalzez and
Sicilee Williams each had nine points to lead the team to a 17-point half-time lead.
Krebs, Williams, Gonzalez and
Haddi Williams scored 19 points in the third quarter, increasing the home side's lead to 23.
The intensity of and press from Adams State increased in the fourth quarter and caused problems for Westminster. The Griffins only scored eight points and the Grizzlies scored 21 points, cutting the lead down to 10 to finish the game.
Gonzales scored 19 points to lead the team in scoring. She had four steals and four rebounds. Krebs scored 18 points and lead the team with eight rebounds. Williams scored 14 points and had two steals.
Sydnee Taylor battled underneath the basket pulling down seven rebounds.
Women's basketball host Colorado School of Mines on December 30 at 1 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased in advance online or at the door prior to the game. The game will be broadcast on the RMAC Network and live stats will be available.
