SALT LAKE CITY – The men's basketball continues to play well at home, remaining unbeaten in eight games at the Behnken Fieldhouse. For a second night in a row, the Griffins scored 90 or more points, defeating Adams State 93-77.
Both teams shot well on the night. Westminster was 53.3 percent from the field in the first half and 66.7 from the field in the second half, making 34-of-57. They made 6-of-11 shots from three-point range and scored 19-of 26 from the free throw line.
Adams state was perfect from the free throw line on 10 attempts. They finished the night shootting 52.8 percent from the field and making 11-of 21 from beyond the arc for 52.4 percent.
The Grizzlies kept the game close for the first eight minutes. During those eight minutes the game was tied four times before settling for Westminster. The Grizzlies saw their final lead of the game disappear after
Sam Orchard and
Tanner Newbold went on a nine-to-two run. The Griffins finished the half leading 42-43.
Westminster took advantage of turnovers during the second half, outscoring the Grizzlies 15-2 off of eight Grizzly turnovers. Westminster finished the game with a 16 point victory over Adams State.
Five players for Westminster scored in double-digits for a total of 80 points.
Dayon Goodman led the group scoring 20 points, just one point ahead of
Quincy Bair who scored 19.
Tanner Newbold scored 16,
Sam Orchard scored 15, and
Mason Smith added 10.
Out of 26 rebounds, Smith pulled down seven, Goodman collected six and Bair tallied five. Goodman had four steals and two blocks.
Next on the schedule is No. 6 ranked Colorado School of Mines over the winter break. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. on December 30 at the Benhken Fieldhouse.
