SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster women's volleyball (9-16, 6-11 RMAC) won its second consecutive match, November 4, sweeping the Thunder wolves of Colorado State University Pueblo (4-21, 3-13 RMAC). The Griffins won the first two sets, 25-19, and grinded out a third set win, 25-22, to sweep the Thunderwolves.
The Griffins came out slow and gave up an early six point run to allow the Thunderwolves an early lead, 8-3. Head Coach
Al Givens called a timeout to talk to the players and the players came out and won seven of the next nine points to tie the game 10-10. An 8-2 run, moments later, built a lead for the Griffins 25-19 win.
The Griffins won the second set by the same score as the first set, 25-19. Several small runs of four and three points gradually built a lead that could not be overcome by the Thunderwolves.
The third set battle was more tightly contested as the Thunderwolves fought to stay in the match. The Griffins held the lead from 4-3 until the end of the match, but the Thunderwolves never let the Griffins feel comfortable. Leading 23-21, Givens called a timeout after the team had lost four of the last five points. Givens told the players, "Look at the score. Stay focused on us, and stay aggressive." The Griffins won two of the last three points to win the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
