Spearfish, S.D. -- Westminster College women's soccer finished the 2017 season with a road win over RMAC opponent Black Hills State University.  With the 3-2 win, the Griffins record improves to 8-8-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the RMAC.

Three goals were scored during the first half of play, all by the Griffins.  A missed clearance in the 29th minute resulted in an own goal and a 1-0 lead for the Yellow Jackets.  Sky Jefferies came on as a substitute and had an instant impact and scored off of an Aimee Kurfurst pass, in the 31st minute, to bring the game level at 1-1.  Libby Dearden scored her third goal of the season in the 40th minute to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead just before half time.

The Griffins took six shots and earned five corner kicks before scoring in the second half.  An assist from Libby Dearden to Abigail black put the griffins up 3-1 in the 81st minute.  Black Hills State didn't roll over and scored in 24 seconds to put the game within one again.  A save from Hillary Weixler in the 83rd minute was enough to preserve the lead and win the game 3-2.

Westminster out shot Black Hills State 21 to 8 but both teams were equal with six shots on target.  Libby Dearden, Emma Heyn, Abigail Black, Aimee Kurfurst Skye Jefferies and Ellie Echevario all contributed one shot on goal each.  Goalkeeper Breanna Empey had one save in the first half and goalkeeper Hillary Weixler made three saves during the second half.

The Griffins are currently in sixth place in the RMAC standings.  Both Fort Lewis and Western State have two games to play and could move in front of the Griffins if they win both of those games.
