Women's soccer fall to Regis

DENVER, Colo. -- October 1 -- Westminster women's soccer (4-6-0, 1-4-0 RMAC) traveled to Denver this weekend to play conference leadaers Regis (7-1-2, 5-01- RMAC).  The Griffins were the first to score but would eventually concede 3 goals and lose to the Rangers, 3-1.

The first half of play was pretty even between the two sides.  Westminster recorded 5 shots to the Rangers 4 and goalkeeper Breanna Empey had 2 saves.  The griffins were first to get a point on the scoreboard in the 34th minute as Emma Heyn, assisted by Aimee Kurfurst, beat the Rangers goalkeeper high and to the right.  The lead didn't last too long, as the Rangers quickly responded in the 40th minute with a cross on the ground from Annika Hills to Sofia Garcia who placed it past Empey.  The half would end 1-1.

The Rangers took control of the second hal as they out shot the Griffins 11 to 3 and had 7 corner kicks to the Griffin's 1.  Hillary Weixler started the 2nd half in goal for the Griffins and made 2 of her 6 saves in the first 2 minutes of the half.  The Griffins would concede to more goals in the 58th and 88th minute in their 3-1 defeat to the Rangers.

Goalkeepers Breanna Empey and Hillary Weixler split time in between the posts.  They combined for 8 saves against the 15 shots taken by the Rangers.

The griffins took 8 shots and had 1 corner kick during the match.  Emma Heyn and Gabriella Sorensen each had 2 shots.  Aimee Kurfurst had an assit, helping Emma Heyn score the lone goal of the match for the Griffins.

The Griffins return to Dumke Field for Rocky Mountain Conference matches on Friday, October 6 at 3:00 PM, against Colorado School of Mines (7-1-1, 4-0-1 RMAC) and Sunday, October 8 at 11:00 AM, against Colorado Christian (3-6-1, 0-4-1 RMAC).  Tickets for both games can be purchased in advance online and on game day one-hour prior to start at Dumke Field entrance.  Both games will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.
