Women's Soccer host New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo

This Week

Women's soccer (6-7-1, 3-5-1 RMAC) have built some momentum, two wins and one draw, going into this week's matches.  On Friday the Griffins host New Mexico Highlands at 12:30 PM and CSU-Pueblo on Sunday at 12:00 PM.  Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the gate the day of the match.  Live video will be broadcast on the RMAC Network and play-by-play can be followed on live stats.
 
The Week in Review

On Friday, women's soccer was at Adams state and played to a 1-1 draw against the Grizzlies.  The Grizzlies scored first, in the 55th minute, off a corner kick.  Aimee Kurfurst scored her first goal of the season to tie the game up for the griffins off of a rebound inside the penalty box.  The game ended in a 1-1 draw after two 10 minute overtime periods.
 
On Sunday the Griffins played the Skyhawks in Durango, Colo.  After going down a goal in the 16th minute, the Griffins bounced back and scored a goal to tie the game in the first half.  The Griffins took 12 shots in the second half and were rewarded with two goals.  The first came from Jacqueline Williams, assisted by Allie Milelrberg, off a header seven yards out from goal.  A penalty kick in the 80th minute was scored by Libby Dearden, her second goal and penalty kick in three games.  The game ended in favor of the griffins, 3-1.
 
Scouting the Opponents

New Mexico Highlands has an overall record of 3-7-2 and a conference record of 3-4-1.  The Cowboys were shutout last week and gave up eight goals in both their losses.  NMHU have been outscored by opponents 30-9 and allow 20.45 shots per game.
 
CSU-Pueblo has a 5-6-1 overall record and are 4-3-1 in the conference.  Over the weekend the Thunderwolves lost 2-1 at MSU Denver and beat New Mexico Highlands 2-0 in New Mexico.  Pueblo has scored 19 goals and averages 12.2 shots per game and 1.13 goals allowed per game.  Laikyn Goss leads the Thunderwolves with 12 goals followed by Sandra Grimaldo with six.

Looking Ahead

Women's Soccer finishes the season against Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D.  Kickoff for the game is Thursday at 3:00 PM.  The game can be watched on the RMAC Network or followed on Live Stats.

Women's Soccer

The 2017 season is the 11th season of competition for the Westminster women's soccer program. The Griffins have gone 112-50-16 all-time and they have recorded seven straight seasons with at least 10 wins. The Griffins went 10-4-3 last season, its second competing in the RMAC and against a NCAA Division II schedule. During eight seasons in the NAIA, Westminster made three trips to the NAIA National Championships and won two Frontier Conference regular season titles.
