Griffins Notebook: WSOC at Adams State and Fort Lewis

This Week

Women's soccer (5-7-0, 2-5-0 RMAC) travels to Alamosa, CO, against Adams State (2-6-2, 1-5-1 RMAC) on Friday and Durango, CO, against Fort Lewis (3-6-1, 3-4-0 RMAC) on Sunday.  The games can be viewed on a live video feed broadcast through the RMAC Network or followed on Live Stats.

The Week in Review

Westminster lost 3-0 to Colorado School of Mines (6-6-0, 3-4-0 RMAC) last Friday at Dumke Field.  The team gave up one goal in the first half and 2 goals in the second half.  Mines put 13 shots out of 20 on goal.  Goalkeepers Breanna Empey and Hilary Weixler combined for 10 saves.  Ellie Echevario had the lone attempt on goal for the Griffins.
 
On Sunday the Griffins played Colorado Christian (4-7-1, 1-5-1 RMAC) and beat them 2-0.  Libby Dearden opened up the scoring on a penalty kick after a hand ball was called on the Christian defender attempting to block Dearden's initial attempt.  Ellie Echevario scored her third goal of the season and the Griffins would finish with a 2-0 victory.

Scouting the Opponents

Adams State split their results last weekend.  On Friday they lost to UCCS 5-0 but turned around and beat Black Hills 5-0 on Sunday.  Until the Sunday game, Adams had only scored five goals in nine games.
Fort Lewis only had one game last week and they beat Black Hills State 4-1.  Fort Lewis has 7 different players that have scored for them this season.

Women's Soccer

The 2017 season is the 11th season of competition for the Westminster women's soccer program. The Griffins have gone 112-50-16 all-time and they have recorded seven straight seasons with at least 10 wins. The Griffins went 10-4-3 last season, its second competing in the RMAC and against a NCAA Division II schedule. During eight seasons in the NAIA, Westminster made three trips to the NAIA National Championships and won two Frontier Conference regular season titles.

 Looking Ahead

Women's Soccer returns home next week and hosts New Mexico Highlands on Friday at 12:30 PM and CSU – Pueblo on Sunday at 12:00 PM.  Tickets for the games can be purchased online in advance or at the gate the day of the game.  The game can be watched on the               live feed through the RMAC Network or followed on Live Stats.
