Aubrie Vale and
Mika Pinner combined to score 53 points to lead the Westminster women's basketball team to a 69-62 overtime win at Colorado Mesa on Friday night in the season finale.

Westminster (12-14, 9-13 RMAC) outscored the home squad 13-6 in the extra period to win for the fifth time in their final seven games. They held Colorado Mesa (17-9, 14-8) to just 34.5 percent shooting to defeat the Mavericks for the first time in team history.

Vale finished the game with 31 points – the ninth-most in team history – on 10 of 20 shooting. She is the first Griffin to scored 30 points in a game since January of 2010 and got there with the help of 6 of 9 makes from beyond the arc. The junior also grabbed four rebounds and had four assists and two steals.

Pinner added the support with a career-high 22 points in her final collegiate game. Her effort gave the team a pair of 20-point scorers for the first time since a November win against Northwest Nazarene.

It wasn't looking good for the Griffins as they were down 36-27 with just under eight minutes to play in the third quarter. They turned the tide with a 19-2 run that carried into the fourth quarter and when Vale hit a three with 8:27 to play Westminster was leading 47-38.

CMU rallied back to take the lead back with 1:31 to play before Vale countered with a bucket and two free throws that had the Griffins leading 56-53 with under a minute remaining. The Mavericks drew even when Bryanna Adams hit a triple with 28 ticks left and a Vale jumper and the buzzer was off and the game headed to overtime.

The Mavericks notched the first four points of the extra session before the Griffins closed the game with a 13-2 burst. Pinner scored the first eight points of the run and had 10 in the overtime. Vale made a three in the run that sealed the win with 1:27 to play.

The Griffins finished the game with a season-high 11 makes from beyond the arc and they shot 61.1 percent from deep. That is the third-best percentage in school history. They made 44.9 percent from the field and had 14 assists on 22 baskets.

Bryanna Adams gave a solid effort for the Mavericks with 26 points behind six 3-pointers of her own. Erika Musante added 10 points and 10 rebounds for a CMU team that will enter the RMAC Shootout as the No. 7 seed.

Westminster completes its first season in the RMAC with the win and they finished 10th in the final standings.
