SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's basketball team had six players score in double figures as they cruised to an 89-68 win over Colorado Mesa on Saturday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Westminster (2-2, 2-0 RMAC) scored the first seven points of the game on their way to a 23-6 advantage just over 11 minutes into play. Colorado Mesa (1-7, 0-2) never got closer than 12 the rest of the night as the Griffins earned their largest conference win since joining the RMAC last season.

The Griffins shot 52.5 percent from the floor to finish above 50 percent for the second straight night. They had 38 points in the paint while also connecting on a season-high nine 3-pointers. Colorado Mesa made just 35.7 percent and the Griffins scored 20 points from 12 CMU turnovers.

Casey Evans led the offensive effort with 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting. He hit three triples and recorded three assists.
Zerrion Payton flirted with a triple-double as the senior went for 11 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.
Dayon Goodman added 15 points with
Marcus Bryce and
Mason Smith scoring 13 points apiece.

CMU made 22 of 32 at the foul line and got 32 points from its bench. They made just two of their first 15 shot attempts to fall in the early hole.

Westminster held a 37-33 edge on the glass with 10 points from 10 offensive rebounds. They assisted on 21 of 32 made baskets with five blocks and four steals.

Eimer Lopez led the Mavericks with 23 points with Tanner Riley adding 16.

The Griffins will now spend the next five games on the road to close the month of December. They open the stretch at New Mexico Highlands on Friday. All road games will be broadcast live on the RMAC Network.
