SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's volleyball team put up a fight before falling in four sets to University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action in the Behnken Field House.
After dropping the opening two sets 14-25 and 19-25, Westminster (2-14, 0-7 RMAC) snapped a 27-set losing skid by winning the third set 25-22. They led UCCS (9-7, 4-4 RMAC) 18-13 in the fourth set, but the Mountain Lions rallied back for the 25-22 win.
Amara Spere carried the Griffins offensive attack during the match as the junior racked up a season-high 22 kills. That is tied for the second-most kills in a four-set match in team history and falls two shy of her career high 24 set in a match last season against UCCS.
The Griffins finished the night with just 45 kills as a team and they hit .129. UCCS totaled 65 kills and .264 hitting. Spere his .315 to lead the team.
Westminster had five players record double-digit digs on the night with
Hannah Stearman getting a career-high 21 to lead the team. The team totaled 83 digs to 80 from the visitors.
Savannah Ipsen notched her second double-double of the year with 12 kills and 16 digs.
Taylor Gustafson also had a double-double behind 38 assists and 16 digs.
UCCS was led by a double-double of 26 kills and 11 digs from Alyssa Brinton. Natasha Habert added 34 digs.
