SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's volleyball team dropped a tough five-set match to Western State Colorado on Saturday afternoon in the Behnken Field House.
Westminster (4-19, 2-12 RMAC) led the match 1-0 and 2-1 before suffering the 25-17, 17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 12-15 loss. It was the first time they had a match go five sets since September 10 and only the second five setter of the season.
The match was fairly even throughout with Western State (12-10, 8-6) finishing with 56 kills and the Griffins getting 54. Westminster hit .156 as a team and recorded 11 blocks and 82 digs. The difference in the match was in the serving game where Western State tallied 14 aces to just seven by the Griffins.
Three Griffins recorded double-digit kills in the match.
Amara Spere led the team with 18 kills while
Aubrey Louder and
Savannah Ipsen had 14 and 10 respectively. Ipsen added 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.
Taylor Gustafson also had a double-double with 41 assists and 14 digs.
Hannah Stearman contributed 21 digs and
Katie Allen had eight blocks.
Western State also had three players in double figures in kills and the Mountaineers were led by 18 from Jordan Eatwell.
Westminster will now embark on a road trip that will see them play three matches in four days. The first of those is scheduled for Friday at New Mexico Highlands. That match will begin at 7 p.m. and be broadcast live on the
RMAC Network.
