Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Road Struggles Continue in 71-60 Loss at Rocky Mountain

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Westminster men's basketball team continued its struggles on the road with a 71-60 loss to Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in a Frontier Conference game at the Fortin Center on Thursday night.

Westminster (10-11, 3-5 Frontier) dropped to 0-5 on the road this season with the loss and they see their two-game winning streak come to an end. They were able to keep the game close for most of the night despite shooting just 33.3 percent from the floor.

The Griffins led for most of the first half, including a nine points advantage with 10:47 to play in the period. The lead was 25-20 after a Nick Jenson bucket with 5:12 on the clock before Rocky Mountain (14-8, 3-5) closed with a 12-3 run to end the half with a 32-28 lead.

Rocky never gave up that lead in the second half and the Griffins would never be closer than 32-31 in the opening minutes of the half. Trevor Bamgartner made two free throws to get Westminster within four less than six minutes into the half, but the Battlin' Bears mounted a 21-4 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.

Kenny Woodard led the Griffins with 16 points off the bench after making four of his five attempts from beyond the arc. Westminster finished 8-of-24 (33.3 percent) from three as a team and they tallied 11 assists on 18 baskets.

Quincy Bair was the only other Griffin in double figures as he finished the game with 14 points. Jordan Pryor added seven points with Bamgartner, Isaiah Tademy, and William Walker all scoring five points apiece. Colton Moon had two steals to move within 11 of the Westminster career record of 164.

Taylor Longo led four Bears in double figures with 16 points in 18 minutes off the bench. Zach Hinton had 11 points and 10 rebounds with Sian Laine and Malachi Roberts scoring 13 and 11 respectively.

Westminster will now hit the road for Helena, Mont. where they will face Carroll (Mont.) on Saturday. The Griffins will look to avenge a buzzer-beater loss to the Saints last month in Salt Lake City when the action tips at 7:30 p.m. MT.
