SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team remained perfect on the season with a 3-0 win against Eastern Oregon in the home-opener at Dumke Field on Saturday afternoon during the Westminster Fall Classic.
Westminster (4-0) took the early advantage in the 14th-minute when
Lexi Tucker collected a loose ball in the penalty area and then put her shot inside the far post for her second goal of the season. The goal was the earliest goal scored in a game by the Griffins this season and it carried them into the halftime lead.
After the intermission, Westminster continued to create chances and they added a second goal in the 61st minute.
Nicole Carter delivered a corner kick into the penalty area where
Madison Roemer got her head on the end of it and redirected it into the net for her first goal of the season. It was only the first assist this year for Carter.
Heidi Lorschider put her name on the score sheet for the first time on the year in the 78th minute to give Westminster three-goal advantage.
The Griffins held Eastern Oregon (1-3-1) without a shot until the 68th minute and they finished the game with a 16-1 edge in shot attempts. Westminster put nine of their shots on goal and also had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
This was the Griffins fourth-straight shutout to start the season which is tied for the second-longest shutout streak in school history. They have now gone 392 minutes without allowing a goal dating back to last season.
Westminster will look to continue its perfect start on Sunday when they close the Fall Classic with a noon MT contest with College of Idaho at Dumke Field.
