BUTTE, Mont. – The Westminster women's volleyball team responded to a loss earlier in the day with a 3-1 win over Dickinson State (N.D.) to complete the first day at the Big Sky Challenge at Sampson Court on the campus of Montana Tech.
Westminster was able to snap a three-match losing streak with the 25-15, 25-14, 18-25, 25-19 victory. The Griffins are now 5-6 overall this season heading into their final non-conference matches on Saturday. Dickinson State slips to 0-8 with the loss.
The Griffins had a better showing offensively this afternoon as they racked up 45 kills and finished the match hitting .259. They were also stellar on the defensive side with 47 digs and a season-high 11 blocks in holding the Blue Hawks to .124 hitting.
Amara Culpepper finished the match with a team-high nine kills and hitting .421. The freshman also contributed two digs and four blocks.
Alexis Aalona added eight kills and eight digs with
Brooke Larson totaling seven kills and three blocks. The Griffins also got six kills apiece from
Jaden Green and
Desiree Wickwar.
Alyse Horton led the way with 15 digs and
Taylor Gustafson had 26 assists.
Westminster will be back in action at the Big Sky Challenge on Saturday with a pair of matches. They begin the day against California Merced at 9 a.m. MT before closing out the trip against 18th-ranked College of Idaho at 3 p.m.
