COSTA MESA, Calif. – Looking for consecutive wins over top-25 ranked opponents, the Westminster women's volleyball team came up a little short in a 25-17, 25-23, 25-23 loss at No. 22 Vanguard (Calif.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins entered the match after taking a five-set victory over eighth-ranked Biola (Calif.) late Friday night. They gave Vanguard (7-3) a battle before falling to 4-4 on the season heading into Saturday night's contest with Westmont (Calif.).
Westminster finished the match with a 41-40 advantage in kills and they hit .190 against the Lions. They also picked up 54 digs and five service aces in the loss.
Alexis Aalona led the team with 12 kills with 12 digs and two blocks.
Jessica Chellsen added 10 kills and she hit .389 to lead all Griffins.
Alyse Horton posted a team-best 14 digs and
Taylor Gustafson recorded 34 assists.
Westminster and Westmont will close the Asics/Wyndham Labor Day Classic at 9 p.m. MT tonight.
