Volleyball Claims Two Wins in Spokane

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPOKANE, Wash. – The Westminster women's volleyball team picked up two wins in two matches at the Sports Travel Northwest Invitational on Friday at the HUB Sports Center. Westminster battled to a five-set win against Evergreen (Wash.) to start the day before sweeping Simpson (Calif.) this evening.

Westminster improves to 3-1 on the season with the two victories and they will close the trip to the Pacific Northwest on Saturday when they face Northwest (Wash.) at 12 p.m. MT.

After dropping the first set to Evergreen, the Griffins came back to win both sets two and three. After falling in the fourth set, Westminster rallied from down 15-14 with three-straight points to claim the final set 17-15. The Griffins would hit .160 in the match with 54 kills while adding seven service aces and 75 digs.

Alexis Aalona led three Griffins in double figures with 17 kills and she hit .286 in the match. Jessica Chellsen contributed 16 kills and Amara Culpepper added 13 kills. Five Griffins reached double figures in digs, led by 21 from Jaden Green. Taylor Gustafson notched a double-double with 53 assists and 14 digs.

Westminster saw little resistance in the nightcap versus Simspon as they cruised to a 25-18, 25-8, 25-13 victory. They hit .322 in the match, including .550 in the second set. Westminster had a 38-14 advantage in kills and they tallied 10 service aces and seven blocks.

Aalona again led the way with 11 kills on a .321 hitting performance. Desiree Wickwar and Culpepper each hit .417 with seven kills. Alyse Horton finished with 13 digs and Megan Gallegos added 10.
