Men’s Soccer Plays Embry-Riddle to Scoreless Tie

SALT LAKE CITY – After scoring four goals in Thursday's season opener, the Westminster men's soccer team went 110 minutes without finding the back of the net in a 0-0 tie against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Friday afternoon in the rain at Dumke Field.

Westminster (1-0-1) created some of its best chances in the second 10-minute overtime session and they finished the game with a 13-12 edge in total shots. The Griffins put three shots on goal with Embry-Riddle (0-0-1) notching five shots on frame.

The best scoring chance in the game came in the 89th minute when Westminster's Josh Jackson won a challenge with the Embry-Riddle keeper at the top of the penalty area only to see his header miss just outside the left post. Nick Uzunyan came close the the winner in the final seconds of regulation when his header from a corner kick went just outside the piping.

Anthony Alcox led all Griffins with three shots in the game an due put one of them on frame. Jonnathan Rodriguez and Manuel Duenas each recorded two shots and one shot on goal. Sean Lyne recorded his first career shutout in goal for the Griffins with five saves.

Westminster will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when they face The Master's (Calif.) at 2:30 p.m. at Dumke Field.
