HELENA, Mont. – The Westminster men's soccer team returned from a two-week hiatus with a 4-1 win at Carroll (Mont.) in a Frontier Conference game at Nelson Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Westminster (8-6-1, 2-1 Frontier) would open the scoring early as Andrew Clayton put a shot over the Carroll keeper and in the net for his third goal of the season in just the third minute of action.

Connor Thompson would push the Griffins lead to 2-0 in the 22nd when he converted on a penalty kick for his third goal of the year. Thompson shot the ball to the left of the net while the Carroll (4-8-1, 0-5) keeper dove to the right to give Thompson his second game-winner this season.

Carroll got one back in the 26th minute of play when Arturo Valle rebounded his own shot and put the second attempt in the goal. The Griffins responded in the 49th minute as Jonnathan Rodriguez fired a shot from 20 yards away into the top corner for his team-leading fourth tally of the year.

Westminster would close the scoring in the 59th minute as Anthony Alcox put his shot off the crossbar an in the goal for his second goal of the year and the final goal of the 4-1 win.

The Griffins only managed six shots in the game with five of them on goal. They allowed 15 shots from Carroll, but saw Logan Butzier make five saves to earn his fifth win of the season.

Westminster will now take another 13 days off before a contest at Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Oct 24 in Billings, Mont.
